The Plan The Play By Play The Postmortem The Pictures

We imagined that we were jazz musicians, who — even though we'd never worked together — had somehow managed to book a gig. We had less than 48 hours to get ready for it. We gave ourselves so much time because — surprise! — we're not actually jazz musicians. Most of us aren't any kind of musician at all.

So, we became the No One Way version of a jazz band. Instead of playing instruments, we played a building — the Red Door Playhouse. Instead of writing and performing songs, we created "works of sound" — sound tableaux.

But the improvisation and play that springs from jazz? We kept that.

We gave ourselves two days to become experts at playing the Red Door Playhouse, to form ensembles, and to create and evolve our tableaux using improvisation and play. Then we performed for a wonderful Georgian audience.
